Cut a Rug provides the stage and a mic for unheard talent from across the capital. Expect BRIT School students, spoken word poets, acoustic sets from heavy metal bands whose members all have learning disabilities, ukulele orchestras, comedians and so much more.

Cut a Rug is part of Certitude, a social care provider supporting people with learning disabilities and mental health support needs.

Variety is king, and these are acts you won’t have seen anywhere else in London, performing alongside seasoned musicians.

Based in the beating heart of West Norwood, Cut a Rug produces eclectic and electric line ups of live performing arts. The nights are an offshoot from our inclusive club nights in Ealing and Brixton – live acts became so popular with the crowd that we decided to dedicate separate live nights with an unplugged, open-mic feel.

All of this is set in a gorgeous venue, and it’ll cost you a fiver. Does it get much better than that?

Cut a Rug has grown organically since our first night in 2014, and quite suddenly we now run an event that not only appeals to our various local communities but also gives people from marginalised groups the opportunity to perform and showcase their acts alongside artists who are considered more mainstream.

Cut a Rug performances at the Portico Gallery are scheduled monthly and are shifting from Thursdays over to Fridays, as they continue to build with momentum and local interest.

Would you like to be involved in running the nights? Perhaps you’d like to volunteer with Certitude? Sam, our Community Fundraiser, would love to hear from you. You can contact him at sam.mason@certitude.org.uk for more information.
